Hubungan Inisiasi Menyusu Dini (IMD) Dengan Keberhasilan Pemberian Asi Bayi 0-4 Bulan di BPS Puskesmas Gunungpati Kota Semarang

Based on Indonesian of Demography and Health Survey, The participants level of giving breastfeeding milk decreased from 42,4 % at 1997 to 39,5 % at 2002-2003. Indonesian goverment declare ealry breasfeeding initiation program to overcome this problem. It is hoped that by giving early breasfeeding initiation could  improve posibility 2 until 8 more for mother giving exlusive breasfeeding milk. 

The aims of this study is to know the relationship between early breastfeeding initiation and successful of giving breastfeeding milk for 0-4 months newborn baby at independent midwive at Semarang city.

This study is conducting in Semarang. This study is a restrospective study with control case desain. Population of this study is mother who has 4 to 6 month baby at Semarang. Purposive sampling is using for recruiting the sample. All sample were given a quessioner about the successul of giving breasfeeding milk and early breasfeeding initiation.

The conclusion of this study shows that there are a relationship between early breasfeeding initiation and successul of giving breasfeeding milk for 0 to 4 months newborn baby. Early breasfeeding initiation is one of a protecting factor for  successful of giving breasfeeding milk with p value 0,05 and OR 0,2.

It is suggested that a midwive must encourage and prepare for pregnant mother in giving early breasfeeding initiation in order to improve birthing mother care. The crucial role of family or husband is very important for supporting and participating in giving early breasfeeding initiation in improving the successful of giving breasfeeding milk.
